S&K Gaming installs AI-powered licence plate readers at Montana casinos

US.- S&K Gaming has installed AI-powered automated licence plate readers at Kwataqnuk Resort & Casino and its two other major casino properties on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. The Genetec AutoVu Cloudrunner cameras capture information including a vehicle’s plate, make, model and colour at property entry points.
CEO Bryon Miller said the technology represents an additional layer in the company’s surveillance system, which includes hundreds of conventional cameras. He said the readers can help identify vehicles connected to potential incidents in large parking areas that are not heavily patrolled.
However, such technology has faced scrutiny over how data is collected, stored and shared. Civil liberties organisations have raised concerns about transparency, oversight and the potential misuse of information.
Miller said S&K Gaming stores the data on its own cloud-based platform, does not receive identifiable personal information and does not share the information outside the company. He stated that Genetec is not connected to a third-party information-sharing network, although Cloudrunner allows users to establish partnerships for data sharing. “All they do is add on a layer of information to the license plate,” he stated.
Montana law places restrictions on the collection, retention and sharing of licence plate reader data. Law enforcement agencies can use the technology for specific purposes, including locating stolen vehicles and wanted or endangered individuals, provided applicable requirements are met.
