Indian government allows betting
The government allowed the Bangalore Turf Club to offer betting for Mysuru races.
India.- The Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) was granted the license issue on Tuesday that it would be able to offer off-course betting for Mysuru races scheduled for today. The license had been previously denied over a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe.
An order signed by K S Padmavathi, Additional Secretary, Finance Department, said: “The BTC has been permitted to conduct off-course betting for the Mysuru races on Wednesday and the licence has been issued for the same.” The CID investigation had concluded that the Bangalore Turf Club couldn’t offer off course betting, but this resolution comes like a glimpse of light for the company.
A committee member of the Bangalore Turf Club said that they’re hopeful that today they will get the respective permissions to offer betting services for the rest of the week: “We have been given the licence for Wednesday’s off-course betting and we hope to get the licence for the remainder of the week on Wednesday,” said the member. “Though we are thinking on the lines of making it a more broad-based membership, a decision can be taken only at a Special General Body meeting,” he added.
