Goa to move offshore casinos to mainland within four years
The state government plans to move Goa’s offshore casinos to the mainland and out of the Mandovi river within the next four years.
India.- The Mandovi river is well known for its offshore casinos, which will soon turn into six fully operational venues. However, Goa’s state government has revealed that it plans to relocate every one of them to the mainland within the next four years.
Mopa would be the designated location to reinstall the gaming venues once the international airport is commissioned, a government source revealed. Nonetheless, the ships will still be operational and serve for tourism activities a scenario that’s been included in the draft casino bill that the government wants to release this month.
According to the government source, the move will also help casino companies to handle garbage and sewerage properly.” Furthermore, it will allow to move the ships out of the navigation channel and leave it clear for regular transit.
“The casino policy will come out in early January and the Goa Act will be amended in the budget session,” another government official said and added: “Within six months of the amendment being passed, offshore casino companies must give in writing that they will shift to an onshore site selected by them within four years.”
