Encore Boston Harbor workers authorise strike

About 1,350 union workers at the Everett property could walk out after their contract with Wynn Resorts expires on August 31.

US.- Workers at Encore Boston Harbor voted on Thursday to authorise a strike, according to UNITE HERE Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25. The two unions represent around 1,350 employees at the Everett, Massachusetts property, and a walkout could begin at any time after their contract with Wynn Resorts expires on August 31.

Teamsters Local 25 member Sem Avdic said workers believe their compensation does not reflect their contribution to the property. “We believe we deserve a fair contract that allows us to provide for our families,” he said, arguing that employees want to be “respected and fairly compensated”.

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien said the union has approximately $365m in its Strike Defence Fund to support members who participate in a walkout. The organisation pointed to Wynn Resorts filings showing that Encore Boston Harbor generated $847m in revenue last year.
