Emergency sports betting regulations approved in Connecticut
Ten days before the NFL Kickoff, a legislative committee has authorised sports betting rules for the state
US.- With the National Football League season starting on September 9, a legislative committee has approved emergency regulations to allow sports betting and online gambling in Connecticut.
The state now awaits the US Department of the Interior’s ruling on tribes’ updated compacts, which would permit legal retail sports betting.
The Department of Consumer Protection commissioner, Michelle H. Seagull, wrote a letter to the committee outlining the purpose of the rules.
The letter read: “The purpose of this regulation is to create a licensing structure and implement provisions for responsible gaming and data privacy protections in order to ensure consumer safety and gaming integrity for new gaming markets in our state.”
Rodney Butler, chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation said: “We expect action from the federal Department of Interior within the next two weeks on the compact amendments submitted in late July, and it is our understanding that once that approval comes, the state Department of Consumer Protection will issue master wagering licenses.’
“With the NFL season kickoff fast approaching, we are working to launch online gaming and sports betting as soon as we are legally allowed to do so.”
In May, the Senate passed the bill, which now needs the signature of the state’s governor.
