Connecticut sports betting may miss NFL Kickoff
The Department of the Interior has until September 9 to rule on tribes’ updated compact
US.- Connecticut’s online and retail sportsbooks may not open in time for the 2021 NFL season Kickoff game next month.
DraftKings and FanDuel, which are partnered with the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes respectively, are still awaiting federal approval for retail sportsbooks at the tribes’ casinos.
The Department of the Interior has until September 9 to rule on the tribes’ updated compacts, which would permit legal retail sports betting. That’s the same date as the NFL season’s opening game between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rush Street Interactive also plans to launch a sportsbook in Connecticut, in partnership with the Connecticut lottery.
A cross-party panel of legislatures is set to meet on August 31 to discuss online sports betting regulations. The state senate approved sports betting in Connecticut in May.
