Dutch Senate to vote on Remote Gambling Bill

The regulated iGaming market is soon to launch as the Upper House will vote on the Remote Gambling Bill next week.

Netherlands.- Years after the Remote Gambling Bill was passed in the Dutch House of Representatives, the Senate will finally vote on it. Lawmakers confirmed after a Tuesday hearing that they will decide whether to turn it into Law next week.

The Upper House has been debating several issues about the bill but has finally decided to move on with it. Several proposals introduced by Minister for Legal Protection Sander Dekker, designed to offer additional protection to consumers, were included in the discussion.

The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Dutch regulator, would be able to assess the behaviour of unlicensed operators prior to the segment’s regulation during a two-year period and then decide whether they should be allowed to submit an application.

Dekker sent a letter to the Senate explaining he wants “to make a distinction with regard to channelling and related consumer protection,” and added: “To be eligible for a licence, providers must show that they can behave. Illegal providers who continue to actively focus on the Dutch market and recruit players here, I want to ban. I have called these providers cowboys.”
