Dutch gambling regulator fines Helmond caterer over illegal gambling terminals
The catering establishment was fined €20,000
The Netherlands.- The Dutch gambling regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has issued a €20,000 fine against the owner of a catering establishment in Helmond. The agency said two gambling terminals with illegal software were seized after an inspection in November. A follow-up inspection in February found another terminal with the same software.
The KSA noted that such betting terminals are illegal in the Netherlands. It said: “There is no supervision of fair play, addiction prevention or participation by minors. The reliability of the software cannot be checked and there is no protection for players. In addition, the providers often don’t pay any tax, which increases the risk of money laundering. “
Earlier this month, the regulator warned that it would be monitoring for unlicensed slot machines following the closure of a number of licensed land-based gaming venues in the Netherlands.
