Detroit casino revenue increases in July

MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown generated $107m in revenue.

US.- Detroit’s three casinos, MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown, collectively generated $107.0m in revenue in July. That’s up 5.9 per cent from June and 1 per cent year-over-year.

According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), table games and slot machines accounted for $106m of the monthly total, while retail sports betting contributed $1m. Revenue from table games and slots decreased by 0.3 per cent year-over-year but increased 5.6 per cent from June 2025.

MGM Grand Detroit Casino accounted for 48 per cent of the market share with revenue of $50.8m, down 0.9 per cent year-over-year, while MotorCity Casino reported 30 per cent of market share, with $31.6m in revenue, up 1.2 per cent. Hollywood Casino at Greektown posted 22 per cent of the market share, with $23.6m in revenue, down 0.9 per cent.

From January 1 through July 31, combined table games and slots revenue was down 0.7 per cent year-over-year.

The three casinos paid $8.58m in taxes, down from $8.61m in the same month in 2024. They submitted $12.6m in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit.

The three Detroit casinos reported a combined retail sports betting handle of $5.7m, generating $1m in gross receipts. Qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) from retail sports betting increased by $1.4m year-over-year and 55.1 per cent from June 2025.

The casinos paid $39,006 in state taxes from retail sports betting revenue and submitted $47,674 in wagering taxes to the City of Detroit.

The MGCB recently issued cease-and-desist letters to six unlicensed online gambling platforms. The regulator said the operators had attempted to target residents without state authorisation.

The violations fall under multiple state laws, including the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Lawful Sports Betting Act, and provisions of the Michigan Penal Code. MGCB stated that failure to comply within 14 days could result in legal action.
