Construction of Cedar Rapids casino moves forward

Riverside Casino has decided not to file an appeal.

US.- Construction of the Cedar Crossing Casino in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is set to move forward. Cedar Rapids mayor Tiffany O’Donnell made the announcement after Riverside Casino decided not to file a legal appeal against the development.

The $275m Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center will be built on the former Cooper’s Mill site on Cedar Rapids’ northwest side. It’s expected to open on New Year’s Eve 2026.

In a Facebook post, mayor Tiffany O’Donnell said: “Full steam ahead at Cedar Crossing Casino! With no appeal filed by Riverside, it’s official: we’re going vertical in Cedar Rapids. Watch the casino rise in the coming weeks. This transformational project is moving forward—bringing jobs, entertainment, and new energy to our beautiful riverfront.”

In February, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s (IRGC) members voted 4-1 to grant a gaming licence after a proposed five-year moratorium on new casinos in the state was rejected. Developed by Peninsula Pacific Entertainment (P2E) and Linn County Gaming Association (LCGA), the venue have 700 slot machines, 22 game tables, restaurants, bars, an entertainment venue with a capacity of 1,500 people, an arts and cultural centre and a STEM lab for children.
