Colorado lawmakers to make a push for sports betting
Two Republican Representatives hope to get the segment legalised in 2019, despite it was previously rejected.
US.- Sports betting legislation is being considered all across the nation and every state is studying how to regulate the segment or, at least, if it should. Colorado is part of the latter group, as voters have rejected the segment (and other gambling expansion bills proposed) in the past, but some lawmakers are still pushing to make it happen in 2019.
Republican Representatives Cole Wist and Alec Garnett are sure sports betting legislation is a “no-brainer” and are set to bring the debate to the table next year. “We should have the conversation to see if this is something we as a state want to do,” Wist said.
Coloradans have repeatedly rejected new gambling scenarios to be approved and they even voted to keep casino gambling limited to the towns of Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek, rejecting gambling expansion proposals in the past. However, Wist and Garnett, succeeded in convincing their colleagues to legalise fantasy sports leagues in 2016, which is why they are hopeful that their bet on sports gambling may actually make it in the end.
There’s so much confidence in the sports betting push, Republican gubernatorial candidate Walker Stapleton has already begun telling voters how he would spend the tax money from sports betting.
