China’s lottery grows
Lottery operations in China grew 31.4 per cent last month.
China.- The lottery sector has grown throughout 2017’s operations in China. According to the Ministry of Finance for China, lottery sales enjoyed a continued growth, as welfare lottery tickets rose 5.1 per cent to 217 billion yuan (US$34 billion) and sports lottery sales rose 11.4 per cent to 210 billion yuan (US$32.9 billion).
Also, sales in China lottery tickets rose 31.4 per cent year-on-year in January, setting a revenue of US$6.1 billion, as reported in an official statement from China’s Ministry of Finance. The ministry said the strong growth was due to a low comparison base in 2017. Sales of welfare lottery tickets rose 19.3 per cent, while sports lottery sales rose 46.7 per cent.
Meanwhile, authorities are considering expanding the gaming industry in the Asian country. Macau could no longer have the monopoly in China, as authorities consider legalising gaming operations in Hainan. Casino resorts are only legal in the Chinese city of Macau so far, but the island of Hainan could be the next hub for international investors who seek to expand their businesses.
