Betting and Gaming Council puts focus on the people who work in the UK gambling sector

A new video series aims to highlight the contribution the regulated gaming sector makes to the UK economy, employment and communities.

UK.- The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has taken a new approach in its efforts to promote the social and economic benefits that the UK’s regulated gambling sector generate for the country. It’s launched a series of careers videos showcasing the people and roles behind Britain’s regulated betting and gaming industry.

It’s its lobbying work to protected the industry’s interests, including its opposition to measures such as the recent rise in Remote Gaming Duty and proposed financial risk assessments, the group regularly highlights the sector’s importance for employment. The BGC says the UK’s regulated betting and gaming sector supports 109,000 jobs and provides many opportunities for people to develop skills, build long term careers and make a positive impact.

The new video series highlights a range of careers across the sector and give an insight into what it is like to work in an industry that it describes as fast paced and innovative. The initial videos feature interviews with employees of Genting Casinos, Entain and Star Sports. There are plans to add more videos to the series.

“Featuring colleagues from across the industry, the series explores why employees enjoy their roles, the variety of career paths available, and the importance of maintaining high standards and a strong focus on customers,” The BGC says.

The BGC recently claimed that the amount staked with illegal gambling operators in Britain has risen to over £16bn. That would represent a two-fold increase in just two years, and a three-fold increase from 2019. However, the Gambling Commission has said that it has seen no evidence of a rise in engagement with unlicensed gambling.

Meanwhile, the BGC recently appointed Kane Purdy, Managing Director at Gamesys Operations, as its new non-executive chair. He replaces Michael Dugher, who stepped down in January after just under two years in the role.
