Thai police bust online gambling ring worth US$45.5m
Police in Thailand have conducted raids in three different locations and busted an illegal online gambling ring.
Thailand.- Police have carried out raids in Bangkok and Kamphaeng Phet on three venues that were allegedly being used as illegal online gambling operation centres.
Officers arrested two women and seized various assets. According to police, the online gambling ring had collected nearly THB1.5bn (US$45.5m), running a website through a live streaming link to a casino in Cambodia.
A few weeks ago, authorities in Thailand arrested 18 people in raids on two houses in Pathum Thani that were allegedly being used as bases for an online gambling syndicate.
Thailand’s cyber police said the syndicate ran online gambling sites and online football betting. According to local media, police seized 16 computers, luxury cars and money. Those arrested were also charged for breaching Covid-19 social distancing measures.
In June, officers also raided a house in Northern Thailand and arrested two men for operating an online gambling website during the 2020 European Football Championship.
Police seized a notebook and desktop computers, 19 bankbooks and 200 grams of marijuana. Those arrested are aged 36 and 22. They are reported to have admitted to working on a site named gothambetvip, which handled between US$313,500 to US$627,000 per month in bets.
