Macau visitor arrivals up 255.4% in March

Macau registered 754,541 visitor arrivals in March, up 76.7 per cent from the previous month.

Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that 754,541 tourists came to Macau in March, up 255.4 per cent from March 2020 and 76.6 per cent from February 2021.

Of those that visited Macau last month, 91.2 per cent came from mainland China, which is the only country to have a largely quarantine-free travel bubble with Macau. Mainland China visitors totalled 688,353, up 674.4 per cent compared to March 2020.

Although the numbers are encouraging, the number of visitor arrivals declined by 46.0 per cent year-on-year to 1.74 million during the first three months of the year.

A report recently suggested Macau should consider turning to technology and online gambling to maintain revenue as Macau is heavily dependant on tourism.

China adds flights to Macau ahead of Labour Day break

As the city prepares for the Labour Day break, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) expects a hotel occupancy rate between 70 per cent to 80 per cent.

Morgan Stanley reported that airlines are increasing their frequencies to Macau prior to the holiday. Most premium mass clients arrive in Macau by air. 

Since March, a negative Covid-19 test result is no longer needed to enter Macau’s casinos, and players can now stand at gaming tables.
