Macau to recover in Q2 according to Melco Resorts CEO

Melco Resorts chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho said Macau’s casino sector will recover “hopefully sometime in Q2, maybe the end of Q2”.

Macau.- Lawrence Ho, chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts and Entertainment, has said he is confident that the city’s casino sector will recover during the second quarter of the year.

Ho highlighted the increase in customer volumes since the end of the Chinese New Year period, which saw Macau’s gross gaming revenue increase by 7 per cent month-on-month for the first three weeks of February.

According to Ho, the end of pandemic-related travel restrictions between Macau and Mainland China will help the city’s recovery.

Ho also stated: “Speaking to various levels of the government, they are very proactively talking to China and the relevant bureau in terms of restarting the e-channel for the [Individual Visit Scheme] visas, restarting group tours.”

Authorities in Macau are also hoping that tourism will bounce back in the short term.
