Macau gaming regulator summons casino operators over proxy betting safeguards

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau called concessionaires to a meeting on the prevention and detection of illegal livestreaming linked to proxy betting at casinos.

Macau.- The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) summoned representatives of the city’s six casino concessionaires to a meeting to discuss safeguards against proxy betting conducted through the livestreaming of casino gambling in Macau. According to local media reports, the meeting focused on enhancing preventive measures and strengthening the industry’s ability to identify and report suspicious activities.

The regulator said technological developments had increased the complexity of detecting unlawful activity at casinos, particularly cases involving customers livestreaming gaming sessions to facilitate proxy betting by people located outside Macau.

Representatives from the concessionaires’ security, operations, human resources and public relations departments attended the meeting and shared details of the measures currently implemented at their properties. These include surveillance procedures, staff training programmes and internal reporting mechanisms.

Operators exchanged views and experiences, and the DICJ called on concessionaires to strengthen employee training and enhance public awareness of casino regulations. The regulator also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining close cooperation with Macau’s Judiciary Police through intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement efforts to combat illegal gambling practices.
