Macau police detain two men in suspected proxy betting cases
The men allegedly livestreamed casino table games and placed bets for clients located elsewhere.
Macau.- The Judiciary Police of Macau have detained two mainland Chinese men for allegedly using modified clothing to livestream casino table games and place bets for offshore clients. The two separate instances reportedly on July 5.
One incident took place at a baccarat slot machine table at a Cotai casino just after 1am. Police were notified of a man who had altered his clothes to conceal a mobile phone. He was allegedly receiving directions through an earbud while livestreaming the game. He wagered about HK$8,000 during the session. A second man was arrested in a city centre casino about half an hour later
Both suspects have been referred to prosecutors on suspicion of illegal operation of online games of chance or online mutual betting. Police said they are unsure if the cases involved organised criminal activity but indicated that this would be examined as part of the investigation.
In another case of alleged proxy betting in Macau, a man was arrested on June 30 for allegedly livestreaming baccarat tables.
