Macau Airport to provide Covid-19 nucleic acid tests

With the intention to continue receiving visitors, health authorities in the SAR have arranged for Covid-19 tests to be offered on arrival.

Macau.- Macau International Airport (MIA) has implemented an on-site nucleic acid test service for passengers arriving in the city.

The Macau Health Bureau has contracted a third-party testing laboratory to provide the service, which began operating this week.

The testing services will be provided to air passengers with valid tickets, staff from entities related to the airport and frontline border staff.

The test will be charged at MOP100 per test, with no free first test as provided at other public testing locations.

Eligible users need to make an appointment to undergo nucleic acid tests at MIA via the designated online appointment system.

MIA reported 1.17 million passenger movements in 2020, down 88 per cent on the previous year. Half of them were residents of mainland China.

China reports new infections

The growth of Covid-19 infections in neighbouring provinces such as Guangdong is a concern for authorities in Macau.

With the Chinese New Year holiday on the horizon, authorities have asked citizens in Guangdong not to travel during the period in order to contain the spread of Covid-19.
