Wagering turnover grew 3.2 per cent year-on-year, driven by record commingling figures and strong simulcasting growth.

Hong Kong.- The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has reported racing wagering turnover of HK$143.31bn (US$18.3bn) for the 2025/26 racing season. The figure represents a return to growth, with revenue up 3.2 per cent year-on-year amid growth in commingling, simulcasting and World Pool operations.

The result follows the implementation of strategic initiatives last year intended to address market challenges and strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a global horse racing wagering hub. Growth was supported by improved field sizes and increased international participation.

Commingling turnover was a record HK$34.4bn (US$4.39bn), up 8.3 per cent from the previous season. The club noted that 26 countries and more than 60 international partners now participate in commingling arrangements for Hong Kong races. For the Chinese New Year Raceday in February, commingling turnover reached HK$523.56m (US$66.8m), making it the second consecutive year that turnover surpassed the HK$500m threshold.

Simulcasting also delivered strong growth after the Hong Kong SAR Government approved the progressive expansion of overseas race simulcasts in June 2025 as part of efforts to combat illegal betting on international horse racing. The HKJC offered 492 simulcast races during the season, with a focus on leading Group and Grade 1 contests.

Turnover generated through simulcasting, including World Pool commingling, rose by 23.5 per cent year-on-year to HK$16.20bn (US$2.07bn). The number of simulcast overseas races in the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities’ Top 100 Group/Grade 1 rankings increased from 71 in 2024/25 to 99 this season.

The number of World Pool races in the season rose from 296 to 397. This included all 12 of Hong Kong’s Group 1 races and several Australian feature events added for the first time, including the Australian Guineas, Golden Slipper and All Aged Stakes. According to the HKJC, commingling turnover into World Pool races, excluding Hong Kong races, increased by 27.7 per cent compared with the previous season.

Looking ahead, the Club said the expansion of simulcasting will continue next season, further increasing its coverage of the world’s top-ranked races. The club also highlighted the expansion of racing tourism in Hong Kong. During the 2025/26 season, its racecourses saw a record 401,259 visits, double the figure in the previous season.
