Galaxy Entertainment Group has confirmed there are no gaming promoters currently operating at its venue.

Macau.- Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd has told GGRAsia’s that it “currently has no junket operators”. The company did not confirm the date when the junket operator stopped working with Galaxy Entertainment at its StarWorld hotel grounds in central Macau or at Galaxy Macau in Cotai.

Junket operators have historically introduced high-value players to Macau casinos and prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, analysts described Galaxy Entertainment as one of the market leaders serving VIP gamblers. However, operators have been cutting their relationships with junkets since the arrest of Alvin Chau Cheok Wa on cross-border gambling and money laundering accusations.

Suncity Group Holdings decided to close all of its VIP rooms in Macau until further notice. In December, Credit Suisse also revealed that Wynn Macau had closed all of its VIP rooms and Tak Chun, the second-largest junket operator in Macau, confirmed that casino operators had decided to temporarily suspend their partnerships.

The number of junket licences issued by the DICJ has been falling each year, from 235 in 2013 to 85 in 2021.
