Chinese lotteries see double-digit growth
Lottery sales were up 10.4 year-on-year in July, mainly due to the rise in sports lottery sales as events returned around the world.
China.- Chinese lotteries posted double digit year-on-year growth for the first time in 18 months for the month of July.
Numbers released by the Ministry of Finance show total sales of CNY36.15 billion (US$5.28 billion) in July, up 10.4 per cent year-on-year and up 7.5 per cent on June.
The increase was largely due to mayor sports resuming internationally. Sports lottery sales rose 17.1 per cent year-on-year to CNY20.7 billion (US$3 billion).
Welfare lottery sales rose 2.6 per cent to CNY15.4 billion (US$2.2 billion).
Digital lottery sales came in at CNY22.42 billion (US$3.2 billion), up 17.3 per cent year-on-year.
Sales for the first seven months of the reached CNY160 billion (US$23.3 billion), down 34.8 per cent against the same period in 2019.
Sports lottery sales fell by 35.6 per cent in the period, and welfare lotteries by 33.8 per cent.
