Australia: ACMA orders blocking of 5 offshore gambling platforms
The ACMA has told Australian internet service providers to block five illegal offshore gambling websites.
Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has told Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to block five offshore gambling websites that were operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
The sites to be blocked are:
- Grand Rush
- Jackpot Jill
- Koala Royal
- National Casino
- Juicy Stakes.
The regulator took the decision after receiving complaints about the services. Since the ACMA made its first blocking request in November 2019, 295 illegal gambling websites have been blocked, while over 140 illegal services have pulled out of the Australian market.
In August, the ACMA also ordered to block seven affiliate advertising websites that billed themselves as independent reviewers of gambling services.
Fiona Cameron, a member of the ACMA, said: “These marketing sites can push you to illegal gambling services that do not have the protections that go with licensed and regulated services.”
The ACMA also announced it had engaged Engine Australia to develop a National Self-Exclusion Register to help people who are dealing with gambling addiction problems.
Players will be able to exclude from licensed online and telephone betting services for three months or permanently. According to ACMA, providers will be prohibited from directly advertising and promoting to any self-excluded person.
