AGCO updates charitable lottery licensing policies for media bingo

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s update allows eligible charitable organisations to offer livestream bingo broadcasts.

Canada.- The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has updated its charitable lottery licensing policies for media bingo. The regulations now allows eligible charitable organisations to offer livestream bingo broadcasts.

AGCO said the update was made in response to stakeholder feedback and to support modernisation in the charitable gaming sector, providing the organisations with greater flexibility and fundraising opportunities. According to the new policy, organisations may broadcast media bingo via a livestream on a web page as an alternative to airing the broadcast on a local cable television station.

All existing requirements that apply to media bingo events will also apply to livestream media bingo. That includes the rules set out in the Lottery Licensing Policy Manual (LLPM) and the Media Bingo Licence Terms and Conditions. Charities must sell paper bingo cards through the charity itself or through local merchants selling on behalf of the organisation. Players must call a local telephone number to claim a win.

iGaming Ontario launches self-exclusion tool

iGaming Ontario recently announced the launch of BetGuard, a tool that enables individuals to voluntarily opt out of all Ontario-regulated online gaming platforms via a single online portal. Exclusion prevents players from accessing existing accounts, creating new accounts, or receiving marketing communications from any regulated igaming site in the Canadian province.

BetGuard offers a website where anyone 19 years of age and older can opt out of online gaming without the need to visit individual igaming websites. It allows players to exclude for a term of 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom term. The tool also informs operators not to send direct marketing to individuals who have opted out.
