Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation adds deposit limits for under 25s

It said research shows younger adults are potentially more vulnerable to gambling-related harm.

Canada.- The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has added a measure that requires online players under the age of 25 to set deposit limits. It said research showed younger adults were potentially more vulnerable to gambling-related harm than other age groups. Players will be able to set a daily, weekly or monthly limit.

Duncan Hannay, OLG’s president and CEO, said: “Requiring a deposit limit is not about removing choice, it’s about strengthening that choice by helping players to pause and consider what they are comfortable spending. OLG relies on research and best practices to guide how we engage with players and respond to emerging trends. This new measure is a practical, data-driven step to help players under 25 build safer play habits early.”

Stan Cho, minister of tourism, culture and gaming, added: “Responsible gaming remains a priority for the Ontario government, and striking the right balance between individual choice and protecting vulnerable players is essential. This initiative reflects the strong collaboration between government, agencies and industry partners to strengthen player protections and ensure Ontario’s gaming market remains safe, responsible and trusted.”

Online gaming wagers in the Canadian province totalled CA$9.3bn in April. That’s an increase from CA$7.8bn in April 2025 but down 3 per cent from March’s CA$9.59bn. Non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) was CA$405.4m, up 5 per cent from the previous month.
