SportPesa Football League introduces monthly awards for players and coaches in Kenya
Kenya’s Football League rolls out Player, Coach and Team of the Month awards to boost competition and fan engagement.
Kenya.-Betting firm SportPesa has introduced monthly awards for players and coaches in Kenya’s Football League to reward top performers, strengthen competition and give fans and bettors more engagement each month.
SportPesa’s Partnership and Sponsorships manager, Japheth Akhulia, outlined the awards in the SportPesa League. “We are going to have Player of the Month and Coach of the Month awards starting this November. This will help improve the quality of the game,” he said.
In addition, SportPesa will select a Team of the Month based on consistent performances. “With these initiatives, we believe the league will become more competitive,” added Akhulia.
Stats and awards to boost football
SportPesa, in collaboration with data company Tisini, has been providing detailed football match statistics throughout the season, an initiative well-received by fans and stakeholders.
Akhulia said: “We have been giving out stats for every match. After each game, we share detailed statistics across all our platforms, helping fans and analysts understand which team played better, which player impressed and who was named the Man of the Match.”
The awards aim to strengthen Kenya’s national football team, with Akhulia pointing out that many players will be performing well and competing for spots. “By the time we get to the AFCON in 2027, Kenya will have a very strong squad. With the work we are putting in to build the league, I believe that about 80 per cent of the national team players will be locally based,” he added.
The monthly awards mark another milestone in SportPesa’s commitment to Kenyan football, providing a platform for players to shine and keeping fans and betting audiences engaged throughout the season.
