South Africa powers Betway’s global boom with R10.8bn revenue
The country now drives over half of Betway’s global revenue, cementing its key role.
South Africa.- South Africa has emerged as the driving force of Betway’s global empire. The online gambling giant generated R10.8bn (€544m) in revenue in 2024, making the country its largest single market and accounting for 53 per cent of total international revenue.
While Betway operates across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, South Africa stands out as the company’s most important market.
Betway’s total revenue has surged in recent years, climbing from R12.3bn (€620m) in 2022 to R20.2bn (€1.02bn) in 2024, according to the Daily Investor.
South Africa has driven much of this growth, with annual revenue rising more than 70 per cent in euro terms. The country brought in R6.3bn (€317m) in 2023, rising to R10.8bn (€544m) in 2024.
Globally, 64 per cent of revenue comes from Africa and the Middle East, 19 per cent from Europe, and 14 per cent from North and South America. In South Africa, the company offers a mix of sports betting and live casino games through its licensed local arm.
Marketing is the company’s largest expense, consuming nearly 80 per cent of revenue. In South Africa, Betway’s aggressive campaigns include high-profile sponsorships of the Premier Soccer League, SA20 T20 Cricket League, Big Easy Golf Tour and Summer Cup Horse Racing.
With extensive advertising across television, radio and digital media, the company has solidified its dominance in the local betting landscape.
Betway’s growth proves that owning the local stage can put the global spotlight within reach. Contributing over half of its international revenue, the company shows how regional strength can translate into worldwide success.
