Senegal’s first satellite internet opens new frontiers for online betting
Sonatel Orange and Eutelsat bring 99 per cent national coverage, connecting rural areas and expanding potential for online gambling and digital services.
Senegal.- Senegal has launched its first satellite internet service by Sonatel Orange, in partnership with Eutelsat’s Konnect, opening new opportunities for online gambling across the country. With coverage reaching 99 per cent of Senegal, rural and underserved communities can now access sports betting, online lotteries and casino platforms, while benefiting from improved connectivity under Senegal’s Horizon 2050 digital plan.
The satellite deployment, combined with fibre optics, 4G and 5G networks, ensures reliable internet access even in the most remote areas. Residential users can subscribe to plans starting at CFA30,000 (€45), while professional packages are priced at CFA44,900 (€68), giving households and businesses immediate access to high-speed connections.
This marks the first time high‑speed satellite broadband has been commercially offered to households and businesses across Senegal. A TechAfrica News report said: “The satellite service is immediately available and installed by local teams, providing a flexible and efficient solution to complex connectivity challenges.”
This expanded connectivity is set to significantly boost online gambling in Senegal. Communities previously limited by poor infrastructure may now enjoy live betting, real-time odds updates and streaming, potentially driving growth for both local and international operators targeting rural areas.
The satellite initiative supports broader digital development, including education, healthcare and government services. Sonatel Orange and its partners also plan to install one million additional fibre-optic sockets by 2028, further strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.
