Botswana Gambling Authority confirms Kemorwale as permanent CEO

The appointment makes permanent a role Kemorwale has held on an acting basis since August 2025, capping a decade at the regulator.

Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority (BGA) has appointed Moruntshi Kemorwale as its substantive chief executive officer, following approval by Tiroeaone Ntsima, minister of trade and entrepreneurship.

Kemorwale had been acting CEO since August 2025, leading the regulator for 11 months while the board’s recruitment process ran its course.

Before moving into gambling regulation, Kemorwale spent close to a decade in Botswana’s mining sector, handling stakeholder relations, sustainability programmes and corporate communications. His earlier public-sector experience includes roles at the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime and the Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board, and he is a former presenter of Botswana Television’s Matlho-A-Phage programme. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management.

Commenting on the appointment, Gambling Authority Board chairperson Plato Gaoboi said the Board was confident Kemorwale’s institutional knowledge, strategic leadership and commitment to responsible gambling would strengthen the regulator’s impact.

He added that the Board looked forward to working with the new CEO to further strengthen gambling regulation and stakeholder confidence in Botswana’s regulated gambling sector.
