NLC hosts funding and compliance awareness campaign in Mbombela

South Africa.- The National Lottery Commission (NLC) has stepped up efforts to improve public access to lottery funding information and regulatory guidance by hosting a community outreach event in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, aimed at helping residents and organisations better understand available opportunities and legal requirements.
The public engagement, held at Crossing Shopping Centre, brought officials from the Commission’s Mpumalanga office face-to-face with residents, non-profit organisations (NPOs) and community groups seeking information on lottery funding, fundraising regulations and compliance requirements.
During the outreach, NLC representatives explained how National Lottery funding works and guided attendees through the process of applying for financial support. Officials also encouraged members of the public to visit its office in the province for additional assistance and information on programmes administered by the Commission.
A key focus of the outreach was educating participants on the legal framework governing fundraising lotteries. Officials outlined the requirements of the Lotteries Act and the Commission’s fundraising lottery guidelines, stressing that compliance is essential to ensuring transparency, accountability and the responsible management of community-based initiatives.
The Commission said that equipping organisations with a better understanding of these requirements would improve their ability to access funding while strengthening governance standards across funded projects.
The event also highlighted a new partnership between the Commission and a local foundation to promote health and wellness education in communities across Mpumalanga.
Under the collaboration, the foundation will work alongside the NLC to expand public awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles and improving access to health information. The initiative is expected to complement existing lottery-funded community development programmes in the province.
The NLC reaffirmed that its Mpumalanga office remains open to members of the public seeking guidance on funding opportunities, compliance with lottery legislation, and support for initiatives in sectors such as education, health, sport, arts and culture, and social development.
Officials said the NLC will continue its public outreach initiatives to help more community organisations understand funding opportunities, comply with regulatory requirements, and implement sustainable projects that benefit local communities.
