Senegal Lottery-backed horse racing event drew 107 entries across seven races

Senegal.- Senegal’s National Lottery operator (LONASE) has hailed an Ambassadors’ Day horse-racing event that featured 107 entries and a FCFA13.7m (US$22,800) prize pool, underscoring its support for the country’s horse-racing sector.
The Ambassadors’ Day event was held at the Ndiaw Macodou Diop horse-racing track in Thiès, Senegal’s third-largest city, on June 20 and 21. According to race details published by Senegal Galop, the meeting featured 107 entries competing across seven races for a share of FCFA13.7m in prize money, including a Group 1 race.
Among the meeting’s feature races were the Grand Prize of the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs on June 20 and the Grand Ambassadors’ Prize on June 21.
Following the opening day of competition, LONASE praised both the quality of racing and the atmosphere at the venue. “An exceptional atmosphere, horses in great shape and an enthusiastic audience marked the first day of local races at the Hippodrome Ndiaw Macodou Diop in Thiès,” the operator said.
LONASE said the opening races showcased competitive performances and highlighted the enduring appeal of horse racing in Senegal, with riders, owners and supporters coming together to celebrate a tradition that continues to play an important role in the country’s cultural and sporting landscape.
The operator described the event as “a unique occasion to celebrate the excellence of the Senegalese horse industry and share a great moment of sport and togetherness.”
