Mauritius horse racing returns to SA’s screens with former jockey Mark Neisius
Mark Neisius to call the action as Mauritius horse racing returns for the 2025 season.
Mauritius.- South African racing enthusiasts can now once again tune in to Mauritius horse racing, with English commentaries provided by former jockey Mark Neisius.
Originally set for July 26, the 2025 season was delayed for regulatory approvals and officially kicked off on August 2. South African fans are buzzing as the racing, a long time Saturday morning favourite, returns to their screens following the Turf Club’s first meeting of the term.
In a sports report on August 20, the SA Sporting Post stated: “The English commentaries from Mauritius will be done by former Cape Town jockey Mark Neisius, who has been resident on the island for some years”.

Although there were initial delays, officials say the pause was necessary to ensure a competitive season that meets all regulatory obligations.
Santosh Gujadhur, President of the Mauritius Turf Club Jockey Club (MTCJC), said: “This move allows all stakeholders, including trainers, operators and regulatory bodies, to be in full readiness, both operationally and legally. We want to guarantee a vibrant and fair start to the season.”
The country’s horse scene is getting a boost after several recent horse sales. One notable example is Plattner Racing’s Selukwe, who finished third in the Hollywoodbets Durban July and was sold for R950,000 (€45,600) to the well-known Paul Foo-Kune stable in Mauritius.
As Mauritius racing returns to South African screens, fans can look forward to a season of competitive action, with more updates expected in the weeks ahead.
