Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority injects K20m into NPL Mothers’ Fun Run
Authority steps up support with increased donation for maternal and neonatal health across local communities and facilities.
Malawi.- The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) has boosted its support for this year’s Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mothers’ Fun Run by donating K20 million (€10,000), helping to advance maternal and neonatal health initiatives across local communities and health facilities.
Originally set at K15m (€7,500), MAGLA increased the donation after learning that the campaign is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The cheque was officially handed over on August 27, marking another milestone in the authority’s ongoing commitment to safe motherhood.
Speaking at the handover, MAGLA Director General Racheal Mijiga praised the initiative for its impact on the country’s health landscape.
“We have seen improvements in both infant mortality and maternal deaths. Mothers are the backbone of society, and children’s early development is critical. It is therefore important for individuals and companies to contribute towards safe motherhood for the sustainability of Malawi,” said Mijiga, according to the Malawi Voice.
NPL spokesperson Aubrey Mchulu highlighted MAGLA’s consistent support over the years. He said: “We are very thankful for this donation. MAGLA has been a consistent partner, and this will go a long way in helping us move closer to achieving zero maternal deaths in the country.”

Over the years, the Mothers’ Fun Run has equipped district hospitals and health facilities with essential maternal and neonatal care tools.
This year’s donation will support health facilities of the country, including the Kasungu District Health Office and 25 satellite clinics. Procurements will include delivery beds, oxygen concentrators, suction machines and other essential maternity equipment, ensuring frontline health workers are better equipped to save lives.
MAGLA’s increased contribution underscores the role of corporate social responsibility in the gaming sector, demonstrating how the industry can make a tangible difference in communities.
