LONAGUI transforms lottery revenue into life-changing support for Guineans with disabilities
The National Lottery of Guinea provides custom prosthetic limbs and rehabilitation support to 10 beneficiaries, highlighting the social impact of regulated gaming.
Guinea.- The National Lottery of Guinea (LONAGUI) has demonstrated the social value of regulated gambling through a health-focused initiative delivering custom orthopaedic prostheses to ten vulnerable Guineans.
Marie Coker, representing LONAGUI’s leadership, said: “This action forms part of LONAGUI’s corporate social responsibility, one of the pillars of our commitment to the nation. For many years, LONAGUI has supported initiatives across several key sectors, particularly health, education, youth, sport and culture.”
The initiative, titled “A gesture of hope for 10 Guineans: prostheses to rebuild their future”, was implemented in partnership with A.CO.SOF, the NGO, based in Guinea, at the National Centre for Orthopedics in Conakry. The project provided ten Guineans, who had lost legs or part of their legs, with custom-fitted prostheses, accompanied by rehabilitation, training and ongoing support to help them regain mobility, independence and confidence in daily life.
Lottery funds restore independence
Aboubacar Soumah, President of A.CO.SOF, described the handover ceremony as a milestone for both the beneficiaries and the wider community. “Today is not an ordinary day. We are celebrating life, courage and resilience,” he said. “I would like to express our sincere thanks to The National Lottery of Guinea, whose decisive support made it possible to turn these dreams into reality.”
Health officials welcomed the initiative as a meaningful example of public-private collaboration. Batouly Kaba, Director General of the National Center for Orthopaedics, said: “Beyond the orthopaedic devices handed over today, this is above all a message of hope, dignity and solidarity for the beneficiaries.”
For many recipients, the assistance marked their first opportunity to access specialised orthopaedic care due to financial constraints. Beneficiaries said the support had already transformed their daily lives, restoring mobility and opening new opportunities for education, employment and participation in the community.
The project highlights how responsible, regulated gambling can fund sustainable social development, positioning LONAGUI as a key contributor to healthcare access and social inclusion across Guinea.
