Limpopo Gambling Board mobilises R25,000 relief for flood-affected communities in Vhembe

South Africa.- The Limpopo Gambling Board has coordinated a relief response with licensed gambling operators to assist households affected by recent flooding in the Vhembe District Municipality.
According to information released by the regulator, the intervention involved financial and material contributions from the Board and its licensees, including Betfred. The combined value of assistance reached R25,000 (€1,250), consisting of food parcels and essential toiletries distributed to affected residents.
The flooding in parts of Limpopo has been linked to heavy rainfall events, which have disrupted homes and local infrastructure. While detailed damage assessments are typically led by municipal and provincial disaster management authorities, industry participation in relief efforts has become a complementary channel for rapid response.
In this case, the Board acted as a coordinating body, calling on operators under its jurisdiction to contribute resources. Betfred provided food supplies, while the Board and other licensees supplied hygiene products. The items were delivered to communities identified as requiring immediate assistance.
The regulator noted that the initiative forms part of its broader social responsibility efforts and its commitment to ensuring that licensed operators contribute meaningfully during times of community distress. It added that further engagement with stakeholders will continue as recovery efforts progress across affected areas in Vhembe.
