Liberia’s National Lottery Authority connects kickball and gaming expansion
Lottery Authority links the growing sport with regulated gaming, driving youth development and cross-border opportunities in West Africa.
Liberia.- Liberia’s National Lottery Authority (NLA) is playing a pivotal role in expanding sports-linked gaming initiatives as the Liberia Kickball Federation (LKF) moves to globalise kickball. A delegation from Sierra Leone’s National Sports Authority (NSA) recently visited Liberia on a fact-finding mission to observe and learn about the sport, which is rapidly gaining popularity across the region.
The NLA is exploring opportunities to link the growing popularity of kickball with regulated gaming and lottery activities, positioning the sport as a potential driver for responsible, revenue-generating entertainment in West Africa.
LKF President Emmanuel Whea said Sierra Leonean officials were impressed with the sport’s organisation and potential. “The successful launch of kickball in Sierra Leone will mark the beginning of the sport’s expansion into the sub-region and eventually to the global stage.”
He confirmed that a follow-up engagement between the Sierra Leone NSA and LKF is scheduled to take place in late September, while exhibition matches featuring six Liberian kickball clubs are planned for October.
Kickball meets gaming
Kickball has become a platform for youth development, education and gender inclusion. Its growth demonstrates how local sports initiatives, supported by regulatory bodies like the NLA, can intersect with gaming and entertainment to generate social impact and economic opportunities.
In March 2025, the NLA signed a sponsorship deal worth L$2.7m (€13,500) with the LKF for the 2025 National Kickball League season, further solidifying the link between the sport and regulated gaming initiatives.
With the NLA actively supporting sports-linked gaming, kickball is growing responsibly while creating real opportunities for communities. This collaboration between federations and regulators is shaping a sustainable model for West Africa’s sports and gaming future.
