SLEC Africa webinar to spotlight gaming market entry and expansion across Africa
Legal, tax and compliance specialists will discuss strategies for operators expanding into Africa’s increasingly regulated gambling markets.
Nigeria.- SLEC Africa will bring together legal, compliance and business specialists on July 17 for a virtual webinar examining the challenges facing operators entering and expanding across regulated African gaming markets. The session will focus on market entry, professional partnerships and the strategic decisions that can influence long-term business success.
The Nigeria-based knowledge and capacity-building platform focuses on gaming law, regulation, compliance and governance. The organisation said the webinar, titled Beyond Licensing: Choosing the Right Partners, will examine how businesses can make informed decisions before entering new jurisdictions.
SLEC Africa said: “The costliest mistakes in business are often made before operations even begin. Choosing the wrong market. Working with the wrong advisers. Building on the wrong foundation.”
The organisation said operators often prioritise obtaining a licence while overlooking the importance of legal, tax and compliance planning. Businesses that fail to address corporate structuring, regulatory obligations and local market dynamics frequently encounter operational challenges after launch, it said. “A licence may open the door to a market, but it does not guarantee success within it.”
The session will examine how operators can select legal and compliance advisers, evaluate commercial partners, navigate local tax and regulatory obligations, and establish business structures suited to the jurisdictions in which they operate.

The session will feature South African gaming attorney Garron Whitesman, founding partner of Whitesmans Attorneys, who has more than 20 years’ experience advising the global gaming industry on gaming law, regulatory compliance and licensing across multiple jurisdictions.
Adenike Oyebamiji, legal compliance manager (West Africa) at Velex Advisory, brings experience advising businesses across Africa’s regulatory landscape, with a focus on navigating complex markets and strategic decision-making.
Zu Tohtayeva, a UK-qualified solicitor and founding partner of SteelRose Legal, brings more than 15 years’ legal experience spanning gaming law, market entry, taxation, regulatory compliance and cross-border corporate matters.
The webinar will be hosted by Nigerian gaming lawyer Olafadeke Akeju, founding partner of SLEC Africa. Together, the speakers will bring expertise in gaming law, regulatory compliance, corporate structuring and cross-border business expansion across African markets.
The virtual event will take place on Friday, 17 July, at 11:00am WAT. Participation is free, although advance registration is required.
