Lesotho and Gauteng gaming regulators strengthen bilateral relations
The two authorities identified areas for collaboration, including licensing, supervision and policy coordination.
South Africa.- The Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) has recently hosted a meeting with the Lesotho Casino Board to promote cooperation and an exchange of expertise between the two jurisdictions.
The discussion centred on sharing knowledge about regulatory frameworks and operational standards with the goal of strengthening bilateral relations and supporting joint development projects in the gaming sector.
Karabo Mbele, CEO of the GGB, led the session, offering insights into South Africa’s gambling market and the role of strong regulatory frameworks in ensuring effective governance.
The two authorities agreed on the necessity of continued cooperation to overcome regulatory obstacles. They also identified areas for joint work, including licensing, supervision and policy coordination.
This initiative aligns with the second Binational Commission meeting between South Africa and Lesotho in Maseru on April 22 and 23, 2025. While no formal agreements were signed between the two regulators, the meeting reflects the commitment of both countries to enhance cooperation and drive progress in the Southern African gaming sector.
This is the second collaboration the Lesotho Casino Board will be having with another regional gambling regulator in recent weeks. In April, it embarked on a benchmarking campaign with the Botswana Gambling Authority.
