Botswana and Lesotho gaming regulators sign MOU
Key areas of partnership will include anti-money laundering efforts and staff training.
Botswana.- The Gambling Authority of Botswana and the Lesotho Casino Board (LCB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a major step forward in advancing regional gaming cooperation.
The agreement was signed by Chairman Marvin T. Torto on behalf of the Gambling Authority and Chairman Pokello Mahlomola, representing the Lesotho Casino Board.
The MOU represents a significant step towards ensuring integrity, accountability and responsible gambling in Southern Africa. It encourages the two entities to collaborate more on regulatory matters, share best practices and improve their oversight capabilities.
Key areas of focus will include knowledge-sharing on licensing, joint efforts against money laundering, and capacity development through training support and staff exchanges.
Torto said: “This partnership is a reflection of our shared values- good governance, fairness and innovation. We are excited to walk this journey with our Lesotho counterparts and build a stronger, more resilient regulatory environment.”
The signing of the MOU was preceded by a benchmarking exercise between the Lesotho Casino Board and the Gambling Authority.
Led by CEO Emolemo Peter Kesitilwe and the LCB Chair, the LCB team toured Sunbet Botswana, Betway Botswana and Moonlite Casino.
During the visit, the agencies exchanged insights, compared regulatory frameworks and identified areas for collaboration.
