Guinea claims its place on the esports stage with official federation launch
The country officially inaugurates its National Esports Federation, aiming to boost youth opportunities, digital innovation and competitive gaming across Guinea.
Guinea.- Guinea has taken a decisive step into the world of competitive gaming with the launch of its National Esports Federation, cementing the country’s commitment to developing esports as a driver of youth empowerment, innovation and digital growth.
The official ceremony on October 11 brought together key figures from government, sports and technology, including Rose Pricemou, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy.
The ministry said in a statement: “This initiative marks an important step in recognising esports as a promising sector that combines digital inclusion, innovation, creativity and economic opportunities for Guinean youth.”
During the launch, Pricemou emphasised the importance of supporting the emerging esports sector by mobilising partners and sponsors, while encouraging “young Guineans to seize new digital opportunities”.
Next-level gaming
The new federation will oversee and promote esports nationwide, building on the success of FIFA Champions Guinea 2025, the country’s first national tournament held in June. The momentum continues later this month with the Orange FC Championship 2025, scheduled for October 25-26.
Backed by telecom giant Orange Guinea, the event will crown the nation’s best EA FC 26 player, who will go on to represent Guinea at the regional grand final in Morocco, facing champions from 16 other Orange subsidiaries across Africa and the Middle East.
Africa’s video game market reached $1.8bn in 2024, up 12.4 per cent from the previous year, compared with a global growth rate of just 2.1 per cent, according to a report by Carry1st.
With its new federation, Guinea is positioning itself to capture part of that momentum, turning gaming from a pastime into a platform for innovation, creativity and economic advancement. The country’s message is clear: Guinea is ready to compete on the African esports stage.
