Ghana’s National Lottery Authority enhances leadership capacity in Management Programme
The training strengthens decision-making and management practices, while Ghana’s 5/90 lottery continues to set a benchmark for the continent.
Ghana.- Ghana’s National Lottery Authority (NLA) has completed a two-day capacity-building programme aimed at strengthening leadership, decision-making and management practices across the organisation.
Held from January 7 to 8, the training brought together middle and senior management staff to explore key areas including leadership development, workplace culture, budgeting, financial discipline, tax compliance and risk management, all critical to the Authority’s operations.
The sessions were facilitated by MKK Solutions Consult Limited, with expert contributions from Mohammed Abdul‑Salam, Director‑General of the NLA; James Avedzi, official at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Richard Quarshigah, politician; and Wiafe Akenten, academic, who shared practical insights and real-life examples focused on responsible leadership and sound governance.
The NLA said: “This programme is part of our broader commitment to strengthening institutional discipline, improving decision-making and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across the Authority.”

The initiative forms part of a wider strategy introduced by Abdul-Salam at the beginning of the year to enhance performance and support the NLA’s long-term operational goals.
In 2026, Ghana’s NLA and its flagship 5/90 lottery product continued to set a benchmark for the continent’s gaming sector. The Authority’s operations and governance model are being referenced by other African lottery operators, with the Abdul-Salam noting that “a lot of countries across Africa are emulating the example of Ghana when it comes to the 5/90 lottery”.
This recognition underscores the NLA’s role as a leading example in lottery regulation, product design and institutional management.
