Ghana’s betPawa levels field with equal bonuses for women’s and men’s football

Renewed partnership expands support to women’s league, boosting welfare and equality.

Ghana.- betPawa is shaking up Ghanaian football by extending its Locker Room Bonus to both men’s and women’s teams, taking a strong stand for equality. The sports betting giant recently renewed its partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), with plans to improve player welfare and energise football across all the country’s leagues.

The ceremony took place on August 8, in Accra where GFA officials, betPawa reps and club managers gathered to mark the renewal of this partnership, which first began in 2022.

betPawa’s Head of local marketing and CSR, Borah Ndanyunga, said: “Whether on match days or at the end of the season, male and female players will be given equal Locker Room Bonus support.”

betPawa’s Borah Ndanyunga champions equal bonuses for Ghana’s men’s and women’s teams.

One of the highlights of the refreshed deal is the expansion of the Locker Room Bonus program, which provides an on-the-spot financial reward for players after every league win, to women’s teams. Since October 2022, the initiative has rewarded players with GH₵400 (€36) after every league win.

For a 20-player squad, that totals GH₵8,000 (€720) in bonuses for each victory. This brings a notable financial lift and a morale boost applied equally to both male and female players.

This time, the partnership extends its reach beyond the Ghana Premier League to include the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, Ghana’s top women’s league, boosting the growing women’s game.

betPawa emphasised the company’s dedication to recognising all athletes’ hard work and said this sends a clear message about fairness and equality.

GFA President, Kurt Okraku, said: “Happy athletes deliver for fans.” He highlighted the connection between player wellbeing, better football performance and increased fan excitement, all “vital elements that also fuel the growth of betting in the country”.

This partnership is a real win for Ghanaian football. By backing players equally and pushing the sport forward, betPawa and the GFA are setting the stage for a brighter, more exciting and more inclusive season ahead.
