Ethiopian Lottery Service promotes Easter raffle with Br10m top prize
State lottery operator highlights seasonal Easter campaign as digital lottery sales and mobile wallet access expand across Ethiopia.
Ethiopia.- The Ethiopian Lottery Service (ELS) has promoted an Easter-themed raffle offering prizes of up to Br10m (€56,212), highlighting how seasonal campaigns are being used to boost participation in the country’s state-run lottery market.
The promotion was highlighted in a post shared by the ELS, presenting the Easter lottery as an opportunity for players to take part in a festive draw linked to the holiday celebrations.
According to the post, the Easter raffle could award a “first prize of Br10m (€56,212)”, followed by a second prize of Br7m (€39,349) and a third prize of Br3.5m (€19,674). The campaign also references additional rewards including villas, cars and other prizes, alongside smaller prize tiers.
Ethiopia’s lottery sector has also been expanding digitally, with lottery services recently integrated into mobile wallets such as Coopay E-birr to broaden access to players. The move follows the launch of digital lottery sales through Coopbank’s mobile wallet, allowing customers to purchase tickets via banking and mobile payment channels.
Easter remains one of the most widely observed holidays in Ethiopia, where many Christians follow the calendar of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Known locally as Fasika, the celebration is marked by church services, family gatherings and nationwide festivities, providing a fitting backdrop for lottery promotions aimed at capturing seasonal interest.
