CyberExpoX 2025 sparks new era for gaming in Malawi
Malawi’s first major gaming and tech expo brings together esports athletes, game developers and industry innovators to showcase talent and boost the digital economy.
Malawi.- The Malawian gaming and technology scene is set for a historic moment as CyberExpoX 2025, the country’s first-ever gaming and technology expo, is scheduled for November 29 at the Alliance Française in Blantyre.
Organised by the Malawi Freedom Network, the event aims to showcase the growing digital entertainment and esports sectors in Malawi, providing a platform for gamers, developers and technology enthusiasts to connect and collaborate.
CyberExpoX 2025 will feature video game exhibition matches in popular titles such as Tekken and EA FC, alongside cosplay competitions and interactive gaming experiences. A dedicated developer showcase will highlight Malawian talent, offering game developers the opportunity to present their creations to investors, industry stakeholders and the wider gaming community.
Gwenyth Matimbe, popularly known as “Gwyn Stacy” and one of Malawi’s leading esports athletes, emphasised inclusivity at the expo, where she will appear as a guest panelist. “Girls will never know until they actually try. As intimidating as it may be, the community is small, which makes it feel like a family, and it is welcoming,” she said, according to the Malawi Freedom Network.
Boosting game developers
CyberExpoX 2025 also aims to support Malawian game developers. Robert Cheuluka, Vice President of the Esports Association of Malawi (ESAM), said: “Making a video game is not easy, it needs a lot of resources. This event can help video game developers attract investors that might have the required resources.”
According to organisers, CyberExpoX 2025 is more than just an entertainment event – it is intended to boost Malawi’s digital economy, promote innovation and create networking opportunities for aspiring game developers and tech entrepreneurs.
CyberExpoX 2025 marks a significant step in putting Malawi on the esports and gaming map of Africa, signalling a growing interest in the digital economy and the creative industries within the country.
