Cameroon’s Joinplay Games puts African mythology in the spotlight with Amma: Chronicles of Lost Stars
Cameroon-founded Joinplay Games gives first glimpse of visually striking RPG based on African mythology, with full trailer and demo set for early 2026.
Cameroon.- African gaming is making waves worldwide as Cameroon-born Joinplay Games releases the first preview of Amma: Chronicles of Lost Stars. The African-inspired fantasy adventure immerses players in fast-paced battles, clever puzzles and a richly imagined universe, signalling the rise of African-developed titles on the international gaming scene.
The game follows Aya, a young girl selected by the Gods to protect humanity. Joinplay Games said: “Enter a world of fantasy and adventure as you join Aya, a young girl handpicked by the Gods to protect humanity. Embark on a thrilling journey in ‘Amma: Chronicles of Lost Stars’, where you’ll fight your way through action-packed battles and uncover the mystery behind the secrets of Dogons.”
Players can also expect a story-driven experience that blends exploration, challenges and dynamic gameplay. “This story-driven game combines exploration, puzzles and fast-paced combat, all set in a fantastical world inspired by the great kingdoms of Africa,” added Joinplay Games.
Next-level gameplay and cultural impact
The studio, now headquartered in Finland, said a full gameplay trailer and public demo are expected in early 2026. Built with Unreal Engine and Quixel Mixer, the preview offers sweeping celestial landscapes, mystical symbols and intense action sequences that hint at the game’s immersive universe.
Beyond its visuals, Amma blends RPG (role-playing game) mechanics, where players step into Aya’s shoes, explore Dogon-inspired landscapes (Malian culture), tackle puzzles and engage in combat. Character growth and story progression mirror Aya’s journey, while elements drawn from Dogon cosmology are creatively adapted to enrich the narrative and the game world.
Amma: Chronicles of Lost Stars reflects a growing wave of African-developed games that celebrate local culture while appealing to audiences worldwide. For players, it is more than a game. It is an immersive adventure, a cultural showcase and proof that African studios are asserting their presence in the global gaming market.
