Botswana Gambling Authority delivers vital support to Princess Marina Hospital
Staff-led initiative donates 1,200 litres of IV fluid and promotes health advocacy, reinforcing the sector’s role in community well-being.
Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority (GA) has stepped in to support Princess Marina Hospital as the national health system faces mounting pressure. The GA Social Club donated 1,200 litres of intravenous (IV) fluid, a life-saving solution supporting patient care.
This essential support helps ensure frontline healthcare workers can treat patients promptly and effectively. “With our national health system facing significant pressure, our staff-led Social Club felt it was essential to act,” the Authority said, highlighting the motivation behind the initiative.
The handover was led by acting CEO Moruntshi Kemorwale and Social Club Chairman Tumelo Batshu, alongside executive team members. Hospital representatives receiving the donation included Tshepo Machacha (Hospital Superintendent), Cheneso Siku (Matron), Mpho Mabuse (Chief Pharmacist) and Keemenao Sampisi (Public Relations Officer).
Health and community focus
The event also included health advocacy, with Dr. Machacha encouraging the Authority to promote healthy lifestyle choices within the organisation to help combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The initiative aligns with the GA’s mission to combine regulation with meaningful social contribution. The GA added: “We believe that a healthy nation is the foundation of a well regulated and thriving society.”
By pairing employee initiative with organisational support, the Authority demonstrates that a responsible gambling sector can generate tangible benefits for communities in need, showing that entertainment and social responsibility can go hand in hand.
In addition, the GA plans to continue engaging with local healthcare and community programs, using its platform to raise awareness, provide resources and foster partnerships that extend beyond the immediate donation. This approach reinforces the organisation’s commitment to long-term social impact and public well-being.
