Tanzania.- betPawa has added the Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL) to its list of sport leagues benefiting from the Locker Room Bonus (LRB).

The partnership marks betPawa’s second major investment in Tanzanian sports after its 2024 deal with the national federation.

The deal will see BDL’s men and women players receive cash rewards for every game won. A strong appeal of the initiative is that the cash bonus is transferred directly to players’ mobile wallets, eliminating delays and bureaucracy.

When a team in the BDL wins, each of the 12 players and four technical staff on the match-day squad will receive TZS 88,750 (€29.26), totalling TZS 1,420,000 (€468). Draws don’t qualify for bonuses since the LRB focuses on rewarding success rather than mere participation.

At the close of the BDL season, betPawa will distribute TZS 14,000,000 (€4,616) through the LRB initiative as bonuses for MVPs and prizes for top teams in both men’s and women’s divisions.

Jehud Ngolo, deputy director of the Gaming Board of Tanzania, said: “For too long, our athletes’ triumphs haven’t been tangible gains. Today, that changes, TZS 88,750 per win is more than money-it’s dignity, motivation and a step toward professionalising basketball. It’s a testament to what happens when regulators and responsible operators collaborate.”

Since unveiling it in 2022, betPawa has expanded the Locker Room Bonus to several African countries, including Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Malawi and Kenya

Africa Sports Development and Equality

With LRB, betPawa aims to support and promote sports development in Africa by motivating players and teams to perform at their best. Through this initiative, the operator also champions equality and inclusivity in sports, as it provides the same financial incentives to players and technical staff in both men’s and women’s competitions.

Raquel Puig, betPawa’s head of CSR & sports development, said: “Equity in sport isn’t just about visibility, it’s about value. It’s about making sure women and men receive the same recognition for the same wins. With Locker Room Bonus, we’re not just levelling the playing field. We’re paying it equally.”
