Malawi.- betPawa has announced the launch of its Locker Room Bonus (LRB) initiative in Malawi’s newly established regional women’s football league.

Launched in agreement with the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), the LRB program will invest more than MWK 273,240,000 (€137,802, $157,000) in the women’s league. Players and technical staff will receive instant win bonuses for their performances across 270 official league matches, with rewards paid via mobile money immediately after the game.

Each winning team will receive MWK 1,012,000 (€512), with MWK 44,000 going directly to each of the 23 players and three staff members.

The introduction of the Locker Room Bonus to Malawi’s women’s football league sets a new standard. It is the first time betPawa’s flagship sports impact program will be introduced to support a women’s league in Africa.

Through this partnership, betPawa aims to nurture young talent, promote gender equality, and contribute to the advancement of women’s sports in Malawi.

Raquel Puig, betPawa’s Head of CSR & Sports Development, said: “We talk a lot about empowering women in sports, but too often it stops at hashtags and headlines. What we’re doing here with the Football Association of Malawi is different. We’re putting money directly into players’ hands, rewarding performance, raising the bar and backing belief with action.”

A demonstration match was held in Lilongwe to celebrate the launch and show how the initiative works. After the game, the players, comprising young talents, influencers and community figures, received deposits of MWK 17,300 on their mobile phones, showcasing the Locker Room Bonus in action.

Madalitso Kuyera, Vice President of the Football Association of Malawi, said: “This sponsorship is more than funding; it is motivation. It shows players and coaches that the world is watching. We are deeply grateful to betPawa for this bold commitment to women’s football.”

With Malawi on board, betPawa’s LRB program now spans six countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
