The competition took place at the Mathare Police Depot grounds in Nairobi and was part of the #BetikaMbuziYaMtaa event – literally translated as “Community Goat Tournament”.
Teams competed in tightly contested matches where goats were awarded as prizes, a symbolic and culturally meaningful reward that celebrated the winners in a tangible way rather than through cash alone.
Community champions crowned
Two teams emerged at the top: New Mathare, who finished first and received two goats, and Hospital Combined, who placed second and took home one goat. Betika said: “The games were tight but it boiled down to one clear winner.”
