West Virginia may legalise esports betting
Lawmakers are considering a bill that would incorporate e-sports into the state’s gambling proposition.
US.- The House of Representatives in the state of West Virginia is considering an amendment that would legalise esports wagering. The amendment envisioned in House Bill 4826 would establish a firm definition of esports and categorising it as a legitimate sports betting category.
According to HB4826, an esports event is an electronic sport or competitive video game played as a game of skill for spectators. The legislation has been referred to the House Finance Committee for further review. It has the backing of several delegates, including Bennett Queen, Clay Riley, Daniel Linville, Moore Capito, Shawn Fluharty, and Steve Westfall.
West Virginia adopted sports betting regulations in 2018, allowing both retail and online sports wagering within its initial market launch.
